The Himalayan region constitutes a geographically continuous yet culturally heterogeneous, multi-layered unit. Its core comprises the countries and regions along the Himalayan mountain range, while its cultural influence extends east and west into a broader mountain contact zone—an area shaped by the convergence of diverse nations, ethnicities, and religious traditions. To promote interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research in this area, the Journal of Himalayan Arts & Culture has been established.

The journal places particular emphasis on artistic traditions, religious phenomena, linguistic expression, material culture, and cross-border networks that have developed and evolved across these regions. It also pays close attention to art connoisseurship, the art market, and collecting practices. We welcome interdisciplinary research engaging anthropology, art history, religious studies, literature, history, archaeology, architecture, music, ethnography, and digital humanities.

As an open-access publication, Journal of Himalayan Arts & Culture is committed to sustaining the vibrancy of vernacular and indigenous narratives. It aims to provide diverse content and formats that share scholarly findings and industry insights, dismantling access barriers imposed by traditional subscription models. The journal seeks to broaden the dissemination of Himalayan arts and cultures, fostering interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration and dialogue.
